Another wonderful year is about to end. It was a year with several ups and downs. Many inspiring moments that brought the world to a standstill. It was year that gave several events when all the hearts across the world beat together and prayers where made regardless of the caste, creed, religion or nationality.There were also moments of gleaming happiness all around. Let us take a glimpse of the biggest moments of this year based on the searches made on Google.



FEBRUARY 

The Dress: 

Was it white and gold, black and blue or blue and brown? It began when Scottish couple Grace and Keir Johnston asked their mother for a photo of the dress she was planning to wear to their wedding. It ended in a viral phenomenon that had the world doubting its eyes.

Oscars 2015

Hollywood's biggest event of the year continues to bring millions of searches to Google about winners, nominees and attendees. This year, Best Picture went to Birdman, Best Actor went to Eddie Redmayne and Best Actress went to Julianne Moore.

Farewell to Superstars

We lost a number of greats in 2015, including Leonard Nimoy, Oliver Sacks, and Bess Myerson. Through Google search, we honored their contributions.


APRIL

Nepal Earthquake

11:56 a.m. Nepalese time on April 25, 2015: an 8.1 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, destroying thousands of homes, triggering a massive landslide on Mount Everest and killing approximately 9,000 people.

Same Sex Marriage


2015 was a historic year for love — this year, the US Supreme Court ruled that gay marriages should be recognized at both the State and Federal level. The reaction was instant across the country.

Princess Charlotte is born

On September 4, 2014, it was announced that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were expecting their second child.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao

The historic boxing match took place in a Las Vegas ring on May 2, 2015, when undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. beat a lighter weight Manny Pacquiao.

Guns in America

2015 saw tragedy after tragedy in mass shootings across America. The events led to huge spikes in searches for those cities over the year.

JUNE

Caitlyn Jenner

It may be one of the most famous and iconic Vanity Fair covers ever: the Annie Liebowitz photos of Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, telling her story to the world.

A new era of late night TV

2015 saw big upheavals in the world of late night TV: Daily Show host Jon Stewart and the Late Show's David Letterman both announced they would be retiring and evening TV changed forever.


JULY

Cuba and the US relation restore


On July 20, the US and Cuba restored the diplomatic ties that had been severed 54 years earlier. Though the economic embargo remains in place, for the first time in decades, embassies will be opened and relations normalized.


Iran Nuclear Deal


In the spring of 2015, the US, UK, Russia, France, China, Germany and Iran held negotiations in Switzerland for a framework deal about Iran's nuclear program. On April 2, the countries announced they had reached a deal saying Iran would redesign, convert and reduce its nuclear facilities.


Women's World Cup

Incredible skill and perseverance, drama, athletes at the peak of performance: the seventh Women's World Cup had it all.

Cecil the Lion

Cecil the lion lived in Zimbabwe and was both an attraction in the area and being studied and tracked by the University of Oxford. A recreational hunter shot and killed Cecil on July 1, 2015, drawing international media attention. People turned to Google search to ask questions about lion hunting and the death of Cecil.

AUGUST

Election 2016
This year the 2016 Presidential campaign began in earnest. Battle lines were drawn and the candidates set out their positions.


Migrant Crisis

Europe’s refugee crisis arose through the rising number of refugees and migrants coming to the European Union from war-torn Syria. In April 2015 five boats carrying almost two thousand migrants to Europe sank in the Mediterranean Sea, with a combined death toll estimated at more than 1,200 people.

SEPTEMBER 

Volkswagen emissions scandal

The US Environmental Protection Agency accused Volkswagen of deliberately programming its popular diesel engines to only activate emissions controls during laboratory testing.


The Pope comes to America

In September, Pope Francis came to the US in his first official trip. With this visit, he became the first Pontiff to give an address to a joint session of the US Congress.

OCTOBER

Water on Mars

In late September, NASA scientists discovered water flowing across the surface of Mars. This was a potential breakthrough in both the search for life beyond Earth and human hopes to one day travel there.

NOVEMBER 

Royals wins the World Series

The Kansas City Royals and New York Mets took to the field for the 2015 World Series October 27 - November 2, 2015. The Royals beat the Mets, achieving their second World Series victory.

Adele's Year

The English singer-songwriter returned with a vengeance this fall: releasing her much-awaited third album, '25', to critical aclaim (and becoming the fastest trending musician on search in the process).

Paris Attack

On Friday, November 13, a theatre, stadium, restaurant and cafe were attacked by terrorists, and the world desperately tried to find out if loved ones were safe and what had happened in the city of light. These coordinated attacks were the deadliest on French soil since World War II.

DECEMBER

Star Wars

With a release date of Dec. 18 and months of anticipation, the trailers for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens prompted a worldwide response of excitement and suspense leading up to the film.
