8 Secrets to Start a Successful Blog /Website

"A blog is a discussion or informational site published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete entries" - Wikipedia
Blogging has been around for a really long time, but the rise of blog culture has recently hyped up in past few years. A blog is an online diary, one can write whatever one wants to write regarding any topics. A very wide range of audience gets attracted toward blogs because of its huge content range. Starting a blog is one thing but maintaining a blog for a long time with decent amount of traffic are the key to successful blog.

Follow the tips in this blog post to learn how to start a blog in less than an hour. So let's start now:

1. PLANNING

Planning is the most important step before starting any project. Before you start off with building your blog, STOP and plan on what content will your blog be focusing on. Eg: Technology News and Reviews, Movie Guide, Lifestyle, Sports, Video Games etc.

2. CATCHY BLOG/SITE NAME

In order to make your blog successful, you need to decide a catchy blog name. Always remember to keep the name short and easy to remember. The name of your blog/website should be related to your blog content in some way, this makes the audience to easily connect your blog contents with the name thus making it easier to remember.

3. SELECTING THE PLATFORM

Though for a layman different blogging platforms might not make much difference, but in order to make a successful blog selecting the suitable platform is often very critical point. Most popular ones are WordpressBlogger and Tumblr. Let's give a detail look:
  • Wordpress (Free & Paid)- It is the most powerful platform out there but that doesn't mean that you should prefer it blindly. If you want to setup your own website or maybe expand your blog to bigger website then Wordpress is the platform for you. Extensive customization, powerful tools and a vast range of themes and widgets.
  • Blogger (Free)- One of many products from Google that has been around for a long time. It has been first choice of many bloggers because of it simple usability along with powerful platform. If your sole motive is to write and share your content out there without a long term motive to expand, then it is the best platform for you. Fast, easy to understand, embedded with Google services and a tonnes of beautiful themes.
  • Tumblr (Free and Paid)- Tumblr is a straightforward exercise in sleek minimalism. Described as a “micro-blogging” platform, it’s more of a social media site than a publishing service. One can write short contents, share post and pictures from social media. It is best for quickly posting, re-posting contents of other bloggers and following them. Very large and active community.

4. THEMES

I certainly believe that the look and feel of a website/blog effects the audience very deep. No one would prefer to visit a shabby and unorganized website. Thus, it is very critical to choose the perfect/near-perfect theme for your blog. Just like blog name, its theme should also relate to its content. Always prefer a responsive theme for better usability across devices. For more detail read 4 TIPS FOR CHOOSING A PREMADE THEME FOR YOUR BLOG .

5. PLUGINS AND WIDGETS

You can make your website more interactive to the audience by providing them with various widgets. Widgets can be a search bar or a social sharing button or a follow button etc. There are just few plugins that I would recommend, but the most important one is Google AnalyticsNOTE: Remember never to fill your website with unnecessary and heavy to load widgets it will reduce your traffic.

6. WRITE INTERESTING CONTENT

In the end it all comes down to your writing the final content. Try to write unique and interesting content, it is these contents that get most traffic. Try not to copy someone others work but look for reference from popular authors articles. Research well about your content instead of directly smashing your fingers on your keypads. Look out for details and avoid too much of grammatical errors and typos.

7. PROMOTION AND ANALYSIS

Mere good contents and look of your site is not enough if there is no one to see your contents. Promoting your blog and its post over social media and other community is very important as it would spread awareness about what you are doing. Google+, Facebook and Twitter are supposed to be the best ones. Also index your website on various search engines for better results. Also try promoting some app or popular service through ads.
Default statistic service of your platform or third-party service like Google Analytics is a great option to keep a track of your traffic. Study the type of audience, which country looks your blog the most, which search engine redirects most traffic and what are people looking for in your blog. It becomes really very easy to gain success if you can read these figures.

8. BE A REGULAR

This is probably the most important point. Always be regular with your posts depending on the type of your content, for example - if you write stories or poems you can write two post a month or more, if your content is more frequent news then post regularly throughout the day on a daily basis, else posting once or twice a week is more than enough. Remember, never get worked up and write every good content that comes in your mind in short basis, it may divert your traffic.

At the end of the day blogging should be done out of passion and fun but should not impact negatively to someone or an entire community. I hope liked the tips, tell us more about your experiences on blogging. Like, Share and Subscribe if you like our content.
